Here is the homepage of an example website. The main navigation links are listed at the left under the title “Site Menu”:
Choosing the first “About MGEC” link takes the viewer to a navigation page that shows the names of the 4 related subsections about the school: General Information, Philosophy Statements, About Ms. Mary Grimes, and History.
Choosing a different link in the “About MGEC” Pages list—in the case below, “Philosophy Statements”—moves the name of the currently viewed page to the top of the list, with its name in a lighter text color than the pages that are linked below it. This helps the viewer identify which page in the list they are viewing:
Some individual pages, such as the “General Information Page”—link to a still lower level of navigation, in this case, a page about the school mascot. Note that the individual page “About Our School Mascot” has the same page top as other pages within this level. The lighter text name shown directly under the ‘Gen Info’ page, but above the other links, shows where in the hierarchy the viewer is:
For some individual pages, the top of the page is slightly different. In the example below, the Principal’s Page is linked both from the “About MGEC” menu & also from the “Campus” menu.
Here is an example of the 4-level site map for this website.
The columns are the levels & the different colors indicate the specific template used for the subpage.
